Today is Veteran's Day. As an overthinker, I'm not sure what to say on days of honor like this. I decided that "Respect to Veterans Who Have Served Our Country" is sufficient.
I know some veterans who have suffered, and continue to suffer in their lives, as a result of serving our country. I get emotional if I think about that for too long... but many vets prefer honor, not apologies or outrage or pity or... ???.
Some vets don't like it when people thank them. It's hard to know what to say. I'll go with respect. A friend of mine offers trauma-informed yoga for vets and emergency responders. I think that's the best anyone can offer to our country's military members who have served. I'm better with tangibles. Friends of mine have organized things like making cards and sending them to the troops over Christmas.
I follow along and join in with these kind, compassionate friends of mine when I can. It feels good to think you're doing something meaningful, and to get the kids involved in writing out thoughtful sentiments and drawing sweet pictures.
