, hi!
Some advice for people running their own business online.
It seems to me that things have gotten a little wacky since December of 2019.
I launched my internet business back in 2004 officially. I was waffling in 2003 and I had picked up a few clients. But 2004 is a year I went all in.
A lot has changed since then. I mean a lot.
I'm noticing a lot of problems with internet functionality lately. It's been really frustrating.
If you're frustrated, so are the people who you do business with. The ones who buy from you and the ones from whom you purchase.
So give people the benefit of the doubt. Give them extra time. Let them know that something didn't work and you need help. Be patient. Follow up.
One thing I would say if you're running a little business online is that the same rules that you use to navigate your business relationships with bigger companies absolutely don't apply.
I had a woman email me the other day because she was disappointed that all the free PLR she was supposed to get for $10 didn't all come through.
I started emailing her back in a very human way. Why? Because I'm a human. I'm not some robot person cranking out very boring repetitive and poorly written articles. I am a mom struggling to do right by my child and make money on the internet while I do it.
I create great content and you can't get this much free content for a $10 entrance anywhere else. You can get some lackluster content. But not the kind I make.
Give to your customers in the best way that you can. If you fall short, make up for it. If you have to be slightly embarrassingly transparent to let people understand what's going on in your life and how that's affecting your business, do it.
What will end up happening is that people who empathize with you who might also be running their own businesses will fall in step with you.
They will see themselves in your situation. They will appreciate that you took a moment to talk candidly with them.
Let me give you an example of how shopping with sole proprietors and small business owners online can work to your advantage.
All the content sellers I know run sales and have coupon codes with expiration dates.
But guess what! There's no headquarters where thousands of people are employed to make sure that thode coupon codes are active on the right day and they end on the right day.
When you shop from a small business owner creator person, you get the best of what they have along with some mistakes and flubs. Just accept that. Don't get mad, because chances are you're probably not running a perfect ship either.
And remember that the coupon code that supposedly ended yesterday might actually end today. Don't wait, and don't wonder. Check the code!
It's in your best interest to be proactive. Instead of sitting there waiting for someone to tell you what to do, recognize the landscape that you are in to move freely and take bold action.
Maybe that coupon code will work even though the offer is "over." Maybe it won't work because the person who ran the offer had a family emergency. They forgot to fix the code. Not the end of the world. Just reach out to them!
I want to tell you something about PLR. We all magnify our own income by supporting each other with a small purchase.
If you go into this thinking, what can I get for free... okay you could probably get some things. But then if you have an opportunity to pay just five bucks, it's only five bucks. If you and everyone else pay five bucks it's like putting into a GoFundMe to help make great content affordable to everyone.
The person creating the great content can live off that five bucks because it's compounded by multiple customers... and that means they can continue to make more content.
I'm talking about everyone in PLR!
Just recognize what kind of gold you have by way of the opportunities and connections you've made online through your business. Send that email. Ask the question.
If you don't understand a certain technology, someone else may be able to explain it to you because we get it. We've been there. We are all in this together.
Grow in awareness today. If you feel frustrated about something that went wrong on someone's website, reach out to them.
Try to remember they're just like you. If you didn't get what you wanted, open your mouth.
If you have an opportunity to give an extra $10 to someone who's working hard today, do it. It's going to come back around to you.
That's all I have for now. Carry on, if I can find some good content to share with you later I'll be back!
