The content deliverable for April is Gut Health and the Neurodiverse. It's about 1500 words.
Why gut health for the neurodiverse?
If you talk with other moms whose kids have adhd, autism, sensory processing disorder, Downs and other neurological differences, you might be surprised to learn that they too have kids who struggle with staying regular.
Gut health issues are definitely a problem for kids with more seriously debilitating neurological conditions.
Why is this so common? There can be any number of reasons, but some typical ones are...
- Differences in how the nerves and muscles communicate
- Low muscle tone
- Lack of sensation
- Medications which interfere with how food is absorbed
- Weakness in the core
- Lack of daily movement
- Condition of the diet
- Not drinking enough water
- Other medical or physiological reasons
While gut health challenges can be common when you, your child or someone you know has a neurological condition, this doesn't have to mean lower vitaility or quality of life.
There are things you can do to compensate and to improve how the body processes food.
I created this advice in the hope that people whose lives have been impacted by known neurological conditions can get a starting point for identifying and taking steps to improve gut health.
