More About Food Pantries and How They Help
Food pantries across the US provide meals for low-income families experiencing food insecurity.
They're funded by the USDA and rely on community donations to uphold quality, quantity and variety for their clients. Nutritional needs are factored in to what is purchased, collected, and provided to clients by the food pantry.
If you've ever wondered what happens to surplus food that isn't sold by grocery stores, farms, and food purveyors in a timely fashion BUT the food still has shelf life and nutritional value... it goes to food pantries, as long as the community has efforts in place to manage this type of nonprofit endeavor.
Without food pantry support, the surplus food may in fact go to waste, which is why they're so important.
If you have not explored food pantries in your area and know someone who could use help getting meals on the table for their family, look into your local food pantry resources. Many are run by churches; some exist as their own private, non-profit business entity.
They are always looking for volunteers, some may even have use for your computer and marketing skills to help get the word out on social media.
