Hey, ! Wanna hear a totally cringe advertising story? Okay. Flashback: holiday season 2001 or so, creative floor of Toys"R"Us corporate up in Paramus, NJ.

The dept VP has asked me, a copywriter, to work on a special holiday project. She's collected Christmas cookie recipes from around the office, and would like me to compile/edit them all for a printable mini cookbook to distribute. We'll all bake and have a cookie exchange., too.

I have a BabiesRUs catalog deadline I'm also working on... and I think we might also be decorating cubicles.

I LOVE making cookie books and catalogs, but I HATE decorating. So I agree to the cookie book project. Now I'm hastily copy, pasting and editing the cookie recipes and little blurbs that go with them, to pass along the file to the designer so he or she can work their magic.

We finish the job. I do a speedy proofread and then submit the finished product. Designer does their thing, copies are distributed. I receive mine on Cookie Day.

Well... when I flip to the cookie recipe SUBMITTED BY THE VP of our department, guess what I see? Her recipe is not for COOKIES... it's for COOLIES.

Yes. A major typo, of the WORST kind. I'm not easily embarrassed... but this... this could not be more horrifying.

So the entire department was handed a recipe for coolies that year, courtesy of the vice president of our floor, who had CHOSEN ME to represent her... and this is what I deliver.

ANYWAY... I feel like I should never have mentioned this. Other than that major slip, I was always well reputed for my quality copy editing output.

They didn't fire me. I don't even think anyone said anything. THAT'S HOW NICE my coworkers were. SO. DAMN NICE.
