A Good Idea for Tiktok's Duet Feature

Published: Tue, 09/21/21

Do you use TikTok yet? This is an amazing platform. There are tons of talented and creative people on there right now. I think everybody feels safe to express themselves freely because they're not going to run into their mother, brother, third grade teacher, ex-boyfriend and coworkers. Yet!

As far as the lifetime of a social media platform, TikTok is definitely in a great early phase right now. And they pay people to create content for them, did you know that?

I think we’re all a little bit confused about this platform so if we can share pointers and tips with each other, that would help out everybody.

Up until very recently, I kept the Duet feature off. I really wasn’t too well versed in using TikTok yet, and didn’t know what that was for or why anyone would use it. In fact I'm still kind of bad at it. I am not a visual person LOL. I am straight up words.

Today I figured out a good reason to use Duet on TikTok! Okay, so let’s say that you use TikTok to connect and share content. I’ll use a real-life example here. I’m a blogger. I have several blogs. It’s a really smart idea for me to NOT try and create all the content for my own blogs on my own. A much better idea that helps out others as well as myself, is featuring people’s video recipes, tips and things like that on my blog.

I’ve been trying this out on TikTok lately. Mostly I’m just so in awe of some people’s natural talent there. It takes creative genius, skill and definitely uses multiple parts of the brain to publish a video that’s of movie-like quality. So when I find amazing creators, I’m more than happy to grab the code from their video and pop it into their own featured post on my blogs with a link back.

But then for a while, I couldn’t figure out how to “shout out” the people on TikTok whose videos I was putting in my blog. It’s hard to message people there. The feed gets very clogged with things like lives (which I really don’t watch ever, no offense if you’re busy making lives all day).

Step by Step How to Use Duet to Share Other People’s Content

Well, I finally figured out some steps that can work to help blast out other people’s TikTok videos AND get the word out about my blog where I shared them. It’s worth it, because TikTok is currently paying content creators. So my sharing their videos helps everybody – them and me.

  1. Copy and paste their TikTok video’s embed code into a post on my blog. Categorize it and come up with a good title that will get them found on search engines.
  2. Go back to TikTok and click on the original video of theirs that you shared in your blog.
  3. If they have the Duet feature on, while you’re on their video, you can “duet” yourself in your own video side by side with their video, and announce through a variety of means, that you’ve shared their specific video recipe or tips.

I’m still working on this, so once I figure out how to make a “sign” that I can hold up to announce that someone’s video has been shared on my blog, I’ll post it on TikTok in an upcoming Duet. Thanks for following along with me!
