One thing I learned was that each time a new prospect contacts you, it takes time and energy to engage them in the discussion that needs to happen before you can proceed with their project. They want to feel you out, and vice versa. So what happens is you end up typing out a list of questions for them to fill out. From there, you two can flesh out the details of your project. Once you determine the scope of what needs to be done, you can move on to the actual estimated hours and price quote.

Will they commit? Time will tell. But one thing you can do to cut short the amount of time you spend chatting with clients, and to make sure that you receive all info up front before proceeding, is hand them a pre-written questionnaire. The questions you ask will depend on the type of project they need your help with. It could be anything from brand development, to creating the basic pages of their company website, to writing a project sales page, to designing their company brochure.

Having the questions ready really makes the difference in how much time you spend on project quotes. And, your clients will definitely be impressed when they see that you have a solid system in place for handling their requests. For many years I've had a folder on my computer where I keep all of my client templates. Now I'm sharing them with you, to use in your own client jobs.
