How Do You Get People to Open Up and Read Your Email Newsletter?

Hey , here's an article I put together for you to learn about email marketing.

How Do You Get People to Open Up and Read Your Email Newsletter?

When people sign up for your list, you want to convey to them that you're a real human being and an expert in your field. Your expertise will be the thing that draws them to your words and has them awaiting your future communication with anticipation. After all, if they were the expert, then they would have their own emails they were sending out to people, right.

Thus, it pays to be 1. conversational, and 2. transparent. And 3. it also pays to ask your readers for exactly what they'd like to know more about so you can give it to them

One marketer whose list I used to be on would always share a nugget or two of advice in his message, then close with a request for feedback. He'd ask, "What's your most pressing question about... (subject here)."

As a result of him taking a moment to ask his readers what we wanted to know, he was able to come back with some really good and detailed follow-up messages that kept us hanging on for the next newsletter. He was a really skilled communicator who was very likely just a super outgoing person who enjoyed connecting with others and who also found it beneficial within his field to do so.

This is exactly what you should be doing in your own expert niche, no matter what it is. You could be talking about anything from knitting doggy sweaters to planting sweet potatoes to deep sea diving. People out there have questions and want to know more. If they didn't, they wouldn't be on the list!

Should I respond back when people email me?

There's a fine line between friendship and two professionals staying on topic within their industry. Sometimes in internet marketing, we cross that line and there's no going back! Suddenly you have a person who has become a friend, who you might chat with about your daily life or even trust enough to embark on a JV (joint venture) with.

If this happens, it can only be a good thing, right? The truth is that not very many people will reply when your promotional email lands in their inbox. But if they do, you can decide whether or not the question holds merit and could be the catalyst for future informational mailings that help your audience to learn even more.

Plus your email inbox isn't the only area where you could end up in a Q&A type of discussion with a person who could become a customer. With social media exploding lately, there's a high chance of making a connection with someone who has read the newsletter that you posted on Facebook or Twitter. If that's the case, be welcoming. Also, know how to stay on track and not veer off into personal territory.

Here are 3 great conversation starters to pose in your next email communique:

1. Ask a question
2. Tell a story
3. Offer a tip

Most people will feel happy to engage and have their perspective understood, their question answered or their expertise shared with your readers.

Eventually, your brief chats with engaged readers will become fodder for future mailings. You'll find out what they like, what they don't, what they want to know more about, and what they're most likely to pay for and at what price point. And you'll be able to give all these things to them.

Thanks for being on my list. Enjoy your holiday week!
